The full story
The maker taught himself QuickBasic in high school and made a small DOS game with a friend, who drew the graphics. It has a hero trapped in a cave, fighting killer bees and mutant flying elephants with a rifle.
Over one weekend, Claude parsed the original source code and got the game logic right, extracted the sprites pixel-perfect from 1995 BLOAD memory dumps, and recovered the original timing from the BIOS-tick game loop. It also added a global high score with server-side anti-cheat.
