A broken Immich install on an old TrueNAS box fixed by Claude Code

After months switched off, an old TrueNAS SCALE server's Immich app would not deploy; Claude Code, given SSH access, restructured folders and upgraded Postgres.

The full story

An old PC running TrueNAS SCALE 24.10 (a second-generation i3, 16GB of DDR3 and two 1TB drives in RAID 1) was switched on after four or five months and wouldn't connect to the network. After several reboots Docker was down; reloading the pool brought the apps back, but Immich failed to deploy because it needed a migration to a new folder structure and a Postgres 15 to 18 upgrade.

The owner ran Claude Code on a laptop, enabled SSH on the server and gave it full access, reading each command it ran and hoping it wouldn't delete any media files. A few hours later the folders were restructured, the Postgres error was fixed and Immich was running again.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count). The Claude connector only receives the search words your Claude sends it.
