The full story

A veteran Silicon Valley product manager who worked at Netscape wanted to show his AI-sceptic son what Claude Code could do. He chose to build a presidential election simulator, something like Civilization, with as much sophistication as Claude Code could handle, on a budget of $800 and a staff of one.

He treated Claude Code like a development team, writing requirements for it through the terminal in Visual Studio Code, and used Midjourney for the first concept of the game's strategy dashboard. The post excerpt does not say how far the game got.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
