The full story
A music player built around an ESP32-S3 on the maker's own 4-layer PCB. The click wheel is six copper pads on the board read by the chip's touch pins, it plays MP3 and FLAC up to 96 kHz / 24-bit, and the screen swivels to reveal a d-pad and buttons, with hall sensors telling it which side is up.
Games run through gpSP with an Xtensa dynarec: Pokemon Emerald manages 56 to 62 fps, heavier games drop to 35 to 50, and there is no game sound yet. The maker built the firmware with Claude on top of open-source libraries and says the GPL code will be published, with no games or BIOS included. It is still a prototype.
