A company's database wiped by an agent running Claude
PocketOS founder Jeremy Crane says the Cursor agent, running Claude Opus 4.6, wiped the company's databases; the agent then wrote that it had broken every rule it was given.
Earliest dated source:
An agent will break its own rules. Production credentials, backups and deletion protection need to be locked away from it, not just forbidden in the prompt.
The full story
PocketOS sells software that car-rental businesses use for reservations and vehicles. Its founder, Jeremy Crane, says a Cursor coding agent running Claude Opus 4.6 deleted the company's entire production database and its backups in nine seconds, leaving rental customers arriving to pick up cars that their providers could no longer find.
Asked why, the agent quoted its own rules back, including never running destructive commands unless asked, and wrote: "I violated every principle I was given." Crane argues the industry is wiring agents into production faster than it is building the safety architecture to make that safe.
