A conference-room speaker debugged and fixed over lunch

A Reddit post about Claude Fable 5 diagnosing and fixing a meeting-room speaker on its own.

The full story

In a meeting room, a Poly Studio R30's microphone and camera worked but its speaker didn't. The owner handed the problem to Claude Fable 5 with access to their Mac and went to lunch.

Since it couldn't hear, Claude recorded the room through the MacBook's microphone with ffmpeg while playing test tones, so it could check for itself whether sound came out. It installed Poly's management app, found the useful controls hidden, opened the Electron app bundle, worked out the private local protocol it uses, and wrote a Python client to send commands directly. In the device's internal configuration it found a "USB Async Audio" flag that silently disables the speaker, switched it off, rebooted the unit with a hidden command and confirmed the fix with another recording.

The owner was using remote control and says Claude asked for permission twice along the way.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count).
