The full story
After a hurricane near their home in Florida, the maker found radar and wind apps either needed subscriptions or were full of ads. They built a free live weather map with Claude, using public data only, that zooms to street level for a 3D view.
They took inspiration from NOAA data and apps such as Windy. The post says it used Sonnet 5.5 as the main model and Opus 5.5 as planner in Claude Code, at a total API cost of $100, hosted on Vercel.
