A free, open-source TV debloat app with 5,000 downloads

A Reddit post about an app built with Claude Code (Opus 5.5) that strips bloat from smart TVs.

The full story

Tellyscope is a free, open-source app for Android TV that turns off ads, trackers and bloat in a few taps. It can also sideload apps the TV's store lacks, send files from a phone, and show which apps use data and where they connect. It passed 5,000 downloads in its first week.

The maker didn't write the code. A small team of Claude Code agents (Opus 5.5) runs constantly on a home server: two writing code, one on mockups and documentation, and a lead that assigns requests and reviews every pull request before the maker merges. Screens are mocked up as phone-sized HTML using the real strings from the Kotlin source, and the demo video was generated from screenshot tests rather than recorded.

Because the server is on the home Wi-Fi, the agents connect to real TVs over ADB and watch the logs themselves, but nothing connects until the maker approves it. Testing on real devices caught problems the automated tests missed.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count).
