The full story
The maker connected a fruit fly brain wiring map (the MaleCNS scan, which the post stresses is a wiring map, not a living brain) to DOOM. It loads 138,968 neurons and 4.6 million synapses into a simulation without changing any connection. An eye model turns each game frame into signals for the fly's motion-detecting cells, and a small trained layer reads 10,511 simulated neurons and picks one of 8 keys.
A scripted bot that can see the map was used to train it. On 100 runs from unseen starting spots it reaches the exit of the first level 57% of the time. An earlier fruit fly DOOM project, by its own README, never got past survival tests in a small arena. The maker says the code was written with Claude.
