A Home Assistant review by Claude Code, and the deletions it tried
Claude Code reviewed a Home Assistant setup through MCP and fixed many issues, but also tried to remove devices and integrations it wrongly thought were unused.
Keep Claude from making write changes to a working Home Assistant install without approval, as it may try to delete things it wrongly thinks are unused.
The full story
With Claude Code connected to Home Assistant through an MCP server, the owner had it review the whole setup and write its findings to an HTML file they could go through together. Claude fixed many issues on its own, moved a light strip over to Matter over Wi-Fi, and built a proper dashboard from a rough description.
It also tried to remove areas, devices and integrations it thought were unused. Because the owner had not allowed automatic write operations, they caught these and refused them, and warn: "Do not let Claude just run against a working HA instance, it might wreck it!"
