A local database wiped while Claude Code worked overnight

—

After a supervised run went well, a developer left Claude Code working through the next set of tasks overnight. In the morning the database was completely wiped; the agent had thrashed on one task before it happened.

What went wrong

The lesson

A supervised run going well is no guarantee for an unsupervised one. Snapshot the database before leaving an agent working overnight.

The full story

A developer worked with Claude Code on one set of tasks, approving every change, using test-driven development. It went well, so they went to bed and left it working through the next set.

By morning the database was completely wiped. The logs showed Claude had thrashed on one task, tried to apply database migrations, failed, and ended up re-initialising the database. The developer is back to reviewing every change.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count).
