A months-old energy leak found in a custom GPU physics engine

Claude Fable 5 diagnosed a long-hunted energy-leak bug in a custom Metal physics engine, traced to fixed-point integer rounding in a GPU reduction.

The full story

Nora Kinetics is the poster's eight-month passion project, a custom GPU-driven physics engine and renderer, mostly hand-written. Glued structures developed a bug where energy leaked in and small clusters twitched and drifted instead of coming to rest, and months of effort with and without AI had not found it.

When Fable 5 came out they gave it the problem with their notes. After about 15 minutes it diagnosed a GPU reduction accumulating physics quantities in fixed-point integer maths, a holdover from the original Python prototype that survived the port to Metal. For small clusters the rounding noise was larger than the signal. The poster says it was right, though it sounded wrong at first.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count).
