Partly Horror story Described

A site audit by Claude that took a shared web host down

Asked to check a site for AI visibility, Claude Code spun up parallel sub-agents that hammered the live site until the whole shared host stopped serving web traffic.

What went wrong

The lesson

Rate-limit and scope any agent audit pointed at a live site, especially on shared hosting.

The full story

The poster asked Claude (Fable) whether their own site was set up well for AI visibility. Left alone, it launched a multi-agent audit with five dimensions in parallel, sub-agents and verifiers, sending up to 16 parallel requests, some with bot user-agents and no pacing.

About three minutes later the site timed out and then went down, along with the whole shared host. Ports 80 and 443 stopped accepting connections while SSH and mail kept working. Claude wrote a post-mortem and drafted a support email, and the host unblocked the poster. After they added throttling and a single worker and asked again, the session was switched from Fable to Opus, which the poster says took the server down again.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count).
