The full story
The owner wanted to use surplus solar power by raising the set temperatures on a handful of infrared and electric underfloor heaters, with rules such as leaving a heater alone until the next day if it was adjusted by hand, and reacting immediately when the water heater switches on. They had struggled to make this practical in Home Assistant.
Asked how to do it, Claude Cowork suggested the AppDaemon add-on and wrote a Python script. The owner says it works perfectly, better than YAML could, restores the thermostats once the surplus is used up, and took about an hour in all.
