A user-mode ASIO driver for an unsupported XMOS XU208 audio board

Claude wrote a user-mode ASIO driver for a cheap XMOS XU208 USB audio board whose vendor drivers did not work, after a reverse engineering tool had examined those drivers.

The full story

The owner bought a cheap XMOS XU208 USB audio board that Windows could not use, and the seller's supplied "driver" did nothing. After two years, he used a reverse engineering tool on the installers and found they only bind to a different VID/PID; one build even asked users to disable driver signature enforcement.

The insight was that Windows already ships usbaudio2.sys and only an ASIO driver was missing. Claude wrote a user-mode ASIO DLL that streams through WASAPI exclusive mode, with no kernel driver or signature bypass. It gives two-channel output at 44.1 to 768 kHz, hardware volume and mute, selectable buffers and unplug detection, plus a test suite.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
