The full story
A long-time iTunes user who moved almost entirely to Linux wanted the same way of managing an owned music library, but without being tied to Apple's ecosystem.
Over about a month they built a replacement in Tauri and Rust. It already handles playlists, imports from an iTunes library, smart playlists, playback of high-quality files such as FLAC and album views, and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Next is MTP support for syncing playlists and music to Android phones and DACs without compressing the files.
