The full story
boxBot is a smart speaker the poster built to see whether Claude could handle “Vibe Hardware Engineering”. Claude helped pick the parts (a Raspberry Pi, a Hailo accelerator, a ReSpeaker microphone, a Pi camera, a Waveshare screen and speakers) and calculated thermal loads for a passively cooled setup. The poster made the box by hand from walnut.
The agent inside is custom, driven by skills and a small set of tools plus a boxBot SDK to control the box and display. Having the agent decide when to mute the mic and how to respond simplified the handling of background noise and side conversations.
