The full story
The poster has the Claude Code client running as a native Node process on Windows XP, with nothing offloaded over SSH or RDP. It talks to Anthropic's API over the network as it would on any other system.
Login, chat and web search work. The UI is described as extremely buggy, other tools fail because they use bash in a way XP does not accept, and platform sign-in and Azure/Bedrock sign-in do not work. It is a work in progress, and the poster has ordered a GX280 to try it on bare metal.
