CleanYourTV: open prompts and launcher for Android TV

A developer open-sourced the prompts, launcher source and problem-solving records on GitHub. The project reportedly gained about 13,700 stars quickly. The method uses ADB, not root.

The full story

CleanYourTV is an open-source toolkit that debloats an Android TV or Google TV over Wi-Fi and replaces the home screen with a clean, Apple TV-style launcher. You give a coding assistant such as Claude Code the project's prompt, and it does the work in about fifteen minutes: it connects to the TV over ADB, switches off ad, tracking and preloaded packages, and installs the launcher. Nothing is rooted, and everything can be restored.

The repository is written in Python. It holds the prompts, the launcher source and records of problems people hit on particular models. It became one of the fastest-growing projects of the TV-debloating trend, passing 50,000 stars within weeks, and has been translated into ten languages.

The README is upfront about its limits. Samsung, LG, Roku, Vizio and Hisense VIDAA sets can't run it, so for those it points to a page on turning tracking off with the remote. It also links community apps for people without a coding agent.

Worth knowing

The star count comes from a news report. A Chinese-language report says the published prompt tells Claude not to root the TV or flash custom ROMs.

Can it be undone?

Reported reversible: The project disables packages rather than uninstalling them and provides restore tooling. Source ↗

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
