The full story

Open Dark Colony is a playable browser clone of the 1997 real-time strategy game Dark Colony, written in TypeScript. It includes no game assets. It reads the sprites, maps, scenarios, sounds and interface from your own installation at run time, so it looks and sounds exactly like the original. The engine, AI, interface and mission interpreter are new.

The file formats were worked out from the original DC.EXE using REA on Ghidra, and are documented in English. In the online version you point it at your game folder or a ZIP of it.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
