The full story

This is a work-in-progress recreation of Monte Cristo's 2002 game Dino Island, built for the browser with Three.js and TypeScript and aimed at Mac users. It loads the original game's island data, dinosaur models, animations and interface graphics. Research with REA and Ghidra uncovered the file formats and how the game behaves.

So far it has the original island terrain and textures, 1,536 placed plants, water, skybox and clouds, plus four dinosaurs. The author is clear that it isn't a finished port and doesn't run the original Windows game.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
