Greyscale video over ESP-NOW from a XIAO camera to the CYD
Claude wrote a pipeline that sends 4-level greyscale video from a XIAO ESP32-S3 Sense to a Cheap Yellow Display over ESP-NOW at about 12 fps, and records it.
The full story
The maker wanted live video from a XIAO ESP32-S3 Sense on a 320x240 Cheap Yellow Display without any network setup. The sender captures 160x120 greyscale, reduces it to four levels, packs four pixels per byte and run-length encodes it to about 1,200 to 1,500 bytes, sent in 240-byte ESP-NOW packets; the receiver scales it up at about 12 fps.
Every frame is also logged to the SD card, and Claude built a Python decoder that turns the logs into PNGs or MP4s. Claude wrote the code, while the maker came up with the idea and tested it on hardware.
