JOPA: the Jikes Java compiler modernised to Java 6
—
An old C++ Java compiler updated with Claude.
The full story
Jikes was IBM's historic independent Java compiler, written in C++. JOPA ("Javac One Patch Away") is what its author calls "a totally Claude'd effort" to modernise it, now fully supporting Java 5 and moving to Java 6. They gave Claude a task they didn't think it could handle, and it managed with minimal supervision, though some parts needed adversarial checking. The Hacker News post got 67 points.
