Ender 3 V2 revived with Klipper and Mainsail

A 4-year-old Creality Ender 3 V2 that had not printed since 2021 was brought back. Claude Code backed up the old configs over SSH, moved the Pi to MainsailOS with a current Klipper, fixed a WPA3-only Wi-Fi problem, rebuilt and flashed the printer firmware, and set up the touchscreen. The first print succeeded.

The full story

A Creality Ender 3 V2 3D printer hadn't printed since 2021. Its Raspberry Pi ran OctoPrint on Raspbian Buster with an old Klipper, Python 3.7 and no security updates. It couldn't even join the Wi-Fi any more, because the network had moved to WPA3 and the Pi 3's chip only supports WPA2.

The owner did the whole revival through Claude Code over SSH. Claude first backed up every important file, including the tuned hotend and bed settings, input-shaper values and firmware build options. It then moved the Pi to MainsailOS with current Klipper, worked around the Wi-Fi problem, rebuilt and flashed the printer's STM32 firmware, and brought the unused 3.5-inch touchscreen to life. The first print came out fine.

Worth knowing

Several setbacks: the SD-card flash script failed on the Creality bootloader and needed a manual retry. Pressure-advance calibration and a bed probe are still pending.

An independent community project. Not affiliated with Anthropic.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
