The full story
Since May, Neil Sleightholm has used Claude Code as a day-to-day admin assistant for a large Home Assistant install of about 700 devices across Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread/Matter and ESPHome. Claude runs in the Claude Terminal Pro app, edits the live config and checks its work through MCP. His write-up covers installation, the ha-mcp server for states, logs and traces, a read-only UniFi server, teaching Claude about the house with CLAUDE.md and a "do not fix" list, plus git for history and Spook for clean-up.
