The full story
A CNC machining client wanted STEP models generated from 2D technical drawings. The poster used Claude Code with Claude Desktop acting as a manager to keep Code on track.
The shape family now comes out right and some parts, such as distance rings, are perfect. The vision models struggle with serious industrial drawings, so models will need fine tuning; rotational parts come first, then parametric reconstruction.
