The full story

After a few years of on-and-off work, a maker's persistence-of-vision bike light can play video: 168 LEDs on a spinning wheel draw the picture, and frames are streamed over Wi-Fi at about 8 to 9 frames a second. He designed and built the PCB himself and wrote the Wi-Fi streaming code with help from Claude, the part he had been dreading.

It still needs better speed estimation to stop the picture stuttering.

Parts and cost

  • Custom PCB with 168 LEDs, designed by the maker
  • Wi-Fi microcontroller for streaming frames

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
